Where do the Colts go from here?

Week 10 did not go according to plan from a Colts perspective.

After the demoralising defeat in Minnesota in Week 9 and a poor offensive showing, a big bounce back performance was needed against the Buffalo Bills

It did not happen. In fact for the first two offensive series the Colts had resulted in two interceptions. The first was returned for a touchdown and the second resulted in a field goal.

You cannot give teams of the calibre of the Bills a 10-point head start and expect to win the game. It just does not happen in the NFL.

It did not really get a whole lot better from there, either. The haunted look on Colts quarterback Joe Flacco’s face after throwing his third interception of the day was replicated across all of Colts Nation.

Quarterback is often described as the most important position in all of sport, and at the moment the signal caller in Indianapolis is not delivering.

It is not so much that the Colts have turned in two pretty disastrous games back to back. That can happen. It is the fact that they made such a drama in turning to Flacco, and benching their young quarterback Anthony Richardson.

They – quite literally – benched the future for the present. And the present is not delivering.

Trouble brewing off the field

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said immediately after Sundays’s game that Flacco will remain the teams starting quarterback. Changes are not imminent. It has caused dismay amongst the fans.

Some other post-match comments have caused concern amongst the fanbase as well. Notably, one of the team captains, Kenny Moore made some really damning statements following Sunday’s defeat.

One of his key takeaways included: “I don’t think everybody is working as hard as possible, and obviously it’s showing.’’ Yikes.

Moore’s comments should not go unnoticed, even if players are commonly fired up after a defeat.

This season is not over yet, unbelievably. Despite being 4-6 the Colts remain in the hunt for a playoff berth.

It will take a big effort to right the issues on the field, but if they can, the year does not have to be a write off yet.
