The Jaguars are struggling at 2-8.
For Jaguars fans, there is only one word to describe the start of this season – gut-wrenching.
Aside from the prime time blowout against the Buffalo Bills and the weak stand against the Chicago Bears in London, the Jaguars have suffered six agonising one-score defeats.
It really has been a season to forget.
Week 12 does not look any easier, taking on the Detroit Lions in their backyard.
Based off performances so far, it will be a considerable task for Trevor Lawrence and the Jags to sneak into the win column this Sunday.
There is still hope
Despite the 2-8 record the Jags hold, there is still hope that the season can get better.
In the past two seasons, there has been a late surge leaving the Jags vying for a chance at the playoffs.
On top of this, there have been sparks of potential this season despite all the doom and gloom.
Parker Washington’s superb 97-yard punt-return touchdown against the New England Patriots, Brian Thomas Jr.’s electrifying performance against the Colts and hints of the defence clicking with the solid performance against the Vikings.
But moving forward, it is crucial that these glimmers of hope turn into statement performances.
There is a lot of opinions as to why the Jaguars are 2-8. Is it Doug Pederson’s ability to coach, Press Taylor’s play calls or Ryan Nielsen’s persistence of playing zone coverage?
I think there is plenty of time to discuss this, but not when there is football still to be played.
We are still in a much better position than 2021. It may yet take more time than Shad Khan thinks for the Jaguars to become a regular playoff contender.
With a lot of football still left to play, there is still a chance, albeit a very small one of a season-changing turnaround.
