Farewell Daniel Jones!

Daniel Jones has officially been benched.

Brian Daboll returned after the bye week to face the media, and announced that Daniel Jones is no longer the starting quarterback for the New York Giants.

Many predicted this would happen. ‘DJ’ has not had the best career since being drafted sixth overall in the 2018 draft. This season has not proven to be an outlier.

Jones has been in the spotlight his whole career. Many said his selection was a reach, and unfortunately the sheer number of meme-worthy plays and outrageous records – not the good kind – support that.

The Giants now will look to finish the season off with a new quarterback.

Surprisingly though, Drew Lock – their back-up quarterback – was not elevated and instead Tommy ‘Cutlets’ DeVito will once again start.

This move has caused a stir among the media and Giants fans, once again putting a spotlight on Joe Schoen’s ability to effectively build a team.

Schoen gave Lock $5m a year to be the back-up to Jones and made it clear that he had a chance to challenge for the starting role.

Promoting DeVito over Lock goes completely against this.

As a fan, the decision is the correct one. DeVito likely gives you less chance of winning games which will help the Giants chances of a higher draft pick next year.

As for Daniel Jones, who knows what comes next? It is clear it will not involve the Giants.

He has already addressed the media with a goodbye statement with all the usual class he has shown throughout his turbulent time with the franchise.

While not a fan favourite, I’m sure we all wish him the best and thank him for his efforts.

We will not forget the Vikings playoff win. Hopefully we can forget the rest.
