Dolphins back from brink with overtime win

Another Sunday, another three plus hours of madness with the Miami Dolphins.

Somehow, someway, the Miami Dolphins still have a pulse where the AFC playoff picture is concerned.

Outside of a picture-perfect first drive, it was a struggle on offense all day, or at least most of it!

When the reigning AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, Jason Sanders, then missed an extra point, Dolphins fans strapped in for another bumpy ride.

A first half of back and forth ended with an impressive drive by Tua Tagovailoa for a Sanders field goal to put the Dolphins in front 15-13 at the half.

Aaron Rodgers and the Jets turned up in Miami, looking as good as they have all season. Rodgers himself finished with 27 completions from 39 attempts for 337 yards and a touchdown.

He was sharp for the majority of the game but a missed connection with Garrett Wilson proved costly.

Trailing 26-23 with 51 seconds left, the Dolphins got a lift with a 45-yard kick-off return from Malik Washington and Tua made the most of the field position to work into Jets territory so Sanders could force overtime with a 52-yard field goal.

Miami won the toss and it was Jonnu Smith time. Having been a key factor for Miami in the last four weeks, he was held without a catch for four quarters.

Then, back-to-back overtime catches moved Miami into the red zone and another catch sealed the come-from-behind victory 32-26.

For fantasy fans, that five minute cameo might have been the highlight of their day. Tagovailoa continued his lights out return from injury, completing 33 of 47 pass attempts for 332 yards and two touchdowns.

Since his return he has thrown 15 touchdowns and only one interception, an almost unheard of ratio.

The ‘Fins’ must win out to have a realistic chance of making the postseason, and even then will need help. At least this win is step one of the journey complete.

The Houston Texans will provide a much stiffer test next week, and several Dolphins players will have to up their game to meet that challenge.
