Titans require patience with Callahan despite Jags loss

Another loss for the Titans.

Just like opening a tub of Quality Street at Christmas and finding there are only the coconut ones left, every week starts with anticipation before ending with bitter disappointment.

Despite not scoring a single touchdown in the 10-6 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the game had some of the best football – in my opinion – that the Tennessee Titans have played all season.

Tony Pollard had an amazing game, only two running backs in the entire league had more rushing yards in Week 14, and there have been more positives.

Nick Folk is now one of only 14 kickers in NFL history with over 400 field goals, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has the best touchdown-to-reception ratio in the league.

Quarterback Will Levis has also made it at least two straight weeks without being turned into a meme.

What playoffs?

With how the Titans have been playing this year, I am honestly amazed we made it to Week 14 before being officially eliminated from any potential playoff spot.

Realistically we were never going to get there anyway, given how the season has gone so far.

It was an uphill battle from the get-go and after a quick scan of the league at the halfway point, I found that we could only lose two more games if we were hoping to still make it.

Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars was game three – let us not be cliched and reference baseball here – so now we can only plan for the future and fixing the mistakes that have plagued us all year.

What next?

Once again it was penalties that cost us the game, but there were glimpses of the team we could become if Brian Callahan and Ran Carthon draft well. Let us be honest, that is what we are planning for now.

They also need to make some staffing changes, for all those calling for Callahan to be fired, you need to cool your jets!

It is a new season with a new head coach, a head coach who has never held the position before – cue the Mike Vrabel flashbacks.

Let him settle in, see what he has actually got to work with, and show us what he is made of before you light the torches and send out the angry mob.

If after next year it is still the same, I will bring the matches for you. But as for right now, this year, let us see what he can do.

Unless you just do not watch it at all anymore, because you know realistically that the tub of Quality Street is not even chocolate but your mum’s sewing tin.
