Colts Mock Draft 2.0: A focus on defense

Who do you think the Colts take?

The NFL Combine is in the rear view mirror and everyone is gearing up for the draft in Green Bay.

With free agency just around the corner, it is still difficult to know exactly which way the Indianapolis Colts will go in this years draft.

All the talk so far has been of the Colts looking to add another offensive weapon to their roster with their first round pick.

Many mocks have seen Indianapolis adding Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. There is a very real possibility, however, that he is no longer on the board by the time the Colts are on the clock with pick 14.

Last time I wrote we would look at some defensive options, should Warren not be on the board. With a new defensive coordinator in town, it might be that Indy even look to use the draft to address defense and then free agency to sort the offense.

Who knows?! That is part of the fun this time of year!

If the Colts were to go defense though there are a few players who caught the eye during the annual work out at Lucas Oil Field.

The players below are ones who by most consensus should also still be available by the time Indy are on the clock.

Nick Emmanwori

The safety from South Carolina did himself a huge favour with a really good showing last week at the combine.

A strong 40-yard dash was followed by a great vertical jump. While it might be a reach to take him at pick 14, could a slight trade back be on the cards to get more picks and then select him later in round one?

Potentially. But he definitely plays a role the Colts need to address this off season, so is one to watch.

Jihaad Campbell

A really intriguing option could be to take the Alabama linebacker with the first round pick.

A versatile player who performed well at the combine, off the back of a strong season that saw him named a Second Team All American as well as getting five sacks for the Crimson Tide.

The ability to move him around the defense like a mobile chess piece may appeal to new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

It would not be a surprise to hear his name called in April for the Colts.

Jahdae Barron

Another defensive back – a position of need for the Colts – the former Longhorn ticks a lot of boxes.

The 5’11” senior ran an impressive 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, off the back off a strong season for Texas that saw him named a First Team All American.

On top of that he was also awarded the Jim Thorpe award for best defensive back in college football. That is some resume, and would certainly be a great addition in Indianapolis.

There are plenty of other options that could be available. The above is a very small selection of potential players that Indy could look to draft.

It will be fun to watch and see what happens!
