Is a new dawn on the horizon for the Arizona Cardinals in 2025?
It is only mid-March and a new wave of optimism has hit the desert after the start of free agency saw plenty of moves from ‘The Birds’.
Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort has been very active in the opening weeks of free agency and there are still plenty of notable free agents yet to be signed.
Arizona have beefed up their roster with the notable additions of Super Bowl winning linebacker Josh Sweat from the Philadelphia Eagles and defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson from the Cleveland Browns.
Pass rusher Sweat worked with Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon while Gannon was defensive coordinator at the Eagles, and he racked up 43 sacks in seven seasons with Philadelphia.
The signing of Tomlinson adds another monster to the D-line. He has amassed 40 quarterback hits over the last three years and should be a solid addition to a team who struggled with quarterback pressure last season.
Guard Evan Brown was added as well as linebackers Mylar Walker and Akeem Davis-Gaither, from the Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals respectively. And Jacoby Brissett has been added as back-up to Kyler Murray, replacing Clayton Tune as QB2.
Cornerback Asanti Samuel Jr. visited the Cardinals last week after being released from the LA Chargers but it remains to be seen if he is signing with the birdgang.
Arizona still have plenty of cap space left if they are to venture into the wide receiver market, a position that they could look to strengthen and give Kyler an extra offensive weapon.
If Arizona were to sign a free agent wide receiver and use the draft to pack extra depth on the O-line, then contending for the NFC West should be a very achievable target this year.
