Can anyone stop the reigning champions winning a third consecutive Super Bowl?
Taylor Swift. The officials. Mahomes magic. Whatever it is, the Kansas City Chiefs have been unbeatable so far, this season.
But how has it happened? The fact of the matter is that the Chiefs have not been playing their best football.
Patrick Mahomes’ statistics speak for themselves; nine interceptions, 11 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 90.1.
This is not the Mahomes that we, in Chiefs Kingdom, are used to seeing – making this unbeaten season far from stress-free.
Last night’s game at Arrowhead against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended in an overtime victory, but frankly it was a frustrating early morning watch for UK Chiefs fans.
Despite stand out performances from DeAndre Hopkins and Kareem Hunt, the Chiefs’ numbers should have been much higher.
Chiefs fans can thank the Bucs’ decision to tie the game at the end of the fourth – instead of going for a two point conversion – for the overtime victory.
The most nail biting moments of the game sadly involved injuries.
Firstly Mecole Hardman was questionable to return after a punt return resulted in a shoulder injury. Then ghosts of seasons past returned as Mahomes was up on the medical table following an ankle injury.
Thankfully, both were able to return, and the Kingdom breathed a sigh of relief – our receiver room has spent this season banged up as it is!
Despite all the injuries, incomplete passes, fumbles and penalties that seem to have compromised the season so far, Mahomes and the Chiefs’ determination and drive to succeed is clear – will they make it to the Super Bowl?
So far, all signs point to yes. If Mahomes’ leadership has taught us anything it is ‘Go out there and dominate’.
So far that message has been undoubtedly successful – long live the King of Chiefs Kingdom!
