Saquon Barkley continues to chase down Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record.
Another week, another electrifying performance from Philadelphia’s newest cult hero.
Saquon Barkley wrecked havoc upon the Los Angeles Rams. Not only did he have a career high game, the former New York Giants running back smashed the Philadelphia Eagles’ single game record – rushing for a dazzling 255 yards.
This was just one of many incredible performances that Barkley has turned in this season. After 11 games played, he has already rushed for 1,392 yards – the most in the NFL.
Pundits and fans alike are beginning to ask the question, can Saquon Barkley break Eric Dickerson’s long-standing record for rushing yards in a single season?
In 1984, Dickerson set a record that many believed could never be broken – rushing for a staggering 2,105 yards.
During his record breaking campaign, the legendary running back had rushed for 1,320 yards at the same stage of the year – 72 yards less than Barkley.
There is a very legitimate chance that Philadelphia’s number 26 could not only break this record, but obliterate it.
Teams are yet to find a way to tame the threat that the Eagles’ running back poses.
His relentless attitude chips away at the opponents defensive unit until he finds a way to make an explosive play that can result in huge gains – as he displayed in his most recent performance against the Rams.
Of course, Barkley will spread the message that personal accolades mean nothing unless the team achieves success. Whatever he may say, creating such history has to be at the forefront of his mind.
Six games remain in this years schedule. Barkley will have to average 119 yards per game to break the record – his current average sits at 126.5 yards.
If Barkley does break Dickerson’s record then he will undoubtedly be in contention to become the first running back to win the MVP award since Adrian Peterson in 2012.
