Positives signs to start the offseason.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season ended almost two months to the day at the time of writing.
Although the season ended with some level of disappointment, the Bucs quickly shifted to offseason mode.
With a big season coming up, Tampa Bay had a lot of work to do in free agency.
Indeed, this upcoming season will mark the 50th in the franchise’s history, and the fans are expecting great things.
With that, I have singled out three big moves made by the Bucs these past few days.
Welcome back Chris!
There have been some crazy moves this offseason, and it would be wrong to start with anyone but Chris Godwin.
Godwin has been one of the Bucs’ best players recently, and was one of the top free agents available.
The New England Patriots had offered the slot receiver an alleged $30 million a year, as they look to build around their rising star in Drake Maye.
Despite this, Godwin decided to stay in Tampa Bay and extend his contract by three years, leaving a significant amount of money on the table.
The Bucs agreed a $66 million deal with Godwin, whereas he would have been earning the reported $30 million per year in New England.
This is exciting news for Bucs fans, as Godwin will be back in the Bay next season for the Bucs.
The veteran receiver should be back for the start of the new season in September.
Another Bucs legend returns
Before the Bucs got Godwin back, they secured a new deal for veteran linebacker Lavonte David.
One of the best Bucs players in franchise history, David will be returning for his 14th season in Tampa Bay.
One of the best defensive players on the roster, the Bucs have bolstered their defence after what was a rocky season on the defensive side of the ball.
It is positive to see that Tampa Bay is recognising its shortcomings in that department and addressing the issues.
New man through the door
In the same vein, the Bucs signed linebacker Hasson Reddick to a one year $14 million deal.
Reddick could be exactly what the Bucs need, with the 30-year-old notching 50.5 sacks over the past four years.
This was a department the Buccaneers lacked in last season, and it is great to see the team addressing issues.
All in all, the Bucs have made some fantastic moves so far. A good sports team is not limited to the players on the field, but the higher ups too.
So far, the Bucs staff are doing a fantastic job.
