Comeback Kingdom survive scare in Carolina

Kansas City Chiefs secure victory in North Carolina.

The Kansas City Chiefs have racked up their 10th win of the season. They narrowly avoided overtime against the Carolina Panthers with a last-minute field goal from back-up kicker Spencer Shrader.

Patrick Mahomes hit Noah Gray with a 35-yard toss, for a sensational touchdown on the opening drive. For a second it looked like Chiefs Kingdom might finally get a stress-free game after all. But come on, this is the Chiefs we are talking about.

Mahomes praised the Carolina Panthers’ young quarterback Bryce Young, reflecting on his performance and saying he “played his tail off”. He sure gave the Chiefs a scare!

After the Chiefs’ defense held the Panthers to three field goals before the third quarter, and a fourth quarter Panthers touchdown from Chuba Hubbard uncomfortably tied the game at 27-27, with 1:46 left on the clock.

Why do the Chiefs do this to us, every week?

The team statistics for last night’s game are unbelievably close. Both teams had 5.8 yards per play. The Chiefs’ 391 total yards edged the Panthers’ 334.

This Panthers team certainly held their own against the 10-1 Chiefs, almost taking their record to 4-7.

It could have gone either way in the last few moments, but Shrader proved his worth on the Chiefs’ team. The back-up nailed the 31-yard field goal that ended the game and Panthers’ fans hopes of overtime.

Another nail-biting moment from the defending Super Bowl champions, but this season’s record speaks volumes.

It may not be clear how or why, but in a game where the Chiefs lost 91 yards on 10 penalties and Mahomes was sacked five times, the Chiefs still found a way to win.

We go into Week 13 against the 2-9 Las Vegas Raiders, at Arrowhead Staduim.

Despite my better judgement, I continue to be optimistic that the Chiefs will continue to emerge victorious.
