Another home game and another embarrassing defeat.
The latest loss at AT&T Stadium came against bitter divisional rivals the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Week 10, 34-6 beatdown marked the Cowboys’ fifth-straight home loss. It is a run that started back in January with a humiliating playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys continue to set records for all the wrong reasons at home. They became the first team in NFL history to trail by 20 or more points in five consecutive home games. An unthinkable run after the Cowboys had won 16 in a row at home until the Packers debacle.
Quarterback Cooper Rush – a steady hand in previous relief outings for Dak Prescott – looked lost, and an appearance from Trey Lance failed to provide a spark for an anaemic offence.
A fumble from Rush inside the Cowboys’ 20-yard line and four further turnovers were just a fraction of the woes on offense.
To top it off, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was blinded by the Sun trying to catch a routine pass in the endzone. Who put that there?
Are there any positives?
It was not all bad, though. The much-maligned defense stepped up in the first half and gave the Cowboys the chance to make it competitive.
The defense – buoyed by a returning Micah Parsons – managed five sacks and forced two turnovers while only conceding 14 first-half points.
However, the Cowboys could not take advantage of the opportunities provided by the defense and succumbed to a dominant Eagles in the second half.
Just when you thought it could not get any worse for the Cowboys, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni pulled his starters with 12 minutes remaining.
On top at the home of their biggest rival, I did not entertain it as a possibility that the Eagles would ease up. Even the Eagles could not take any pleasure in further punishing this version of the Dallas Cowboys.
I would have felt better if the Eagles had kept going and put up 50.
Maybe the Cowboys are learning from their mistakes. At lease at Mike McCarthy’s press conference on Tuesday, a shield was placed next to the Cowboys head coach to prevent the Sun from glaring in his face.
If you are not winning, you are learning.
