Kansas City are coming.
Last night marked the opening weekend of the playoffs.
Some teams are sadly waving goodbye, for others the Divisional Round and the road to the Super Bowl continues.
For Kansas City Chiefs fans, it was a quiet weekend. We were waiting patiently to see who we would face next weekend.
As the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles join the Chiefs and the Detroit Lions in next weekend’s Divisional Round, the race for the title is well and truly on.
However, for Chiefs fans it seems a long gap between the regular season and the playoffs.
A long lay off
The Chiefs’ last game was against the Denver Broncos. It finished in an embarrassing 38-0 loss, but the number one seed had already been clinched.
It made sense to rest our starters- essentially giving them another bye week to recover and rest ahead of the Divisional Round.
The Chiefs’ 15-2 season has been far from an easy ride for Chiefs Kingdom.
The team has battled significant injuries and some dubious last-minute victories.
Statistically, there were times when the season record could have gone either way.
And yet, despite maintaining the same record as the Detroit Lions and finishing with two more wins than the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs seem to be absent from every post season conversation?
The Lions and the Bills are favourites to battle it out for the Lombardi Trophy on February 9th.
The Bills’ Josh Allen and the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson lead the odds for MVP.
Overlooked
Where are Patrick Mahomes and the reigning champions?
Offense. Defense. Special Teams. Rookies. Pro Bowl nominees. There is no accolade that the Chiefs are not being shunned by.
Luckily, being ignored, hated and overlooked has not got in the Chiefs’ way up to now.
As Mitch Holtus said: “You can doubt the Chiefs, you can dislike the Chiefs, you can disrespect the Chiefs – you’re going to have to deal with the Chiefs!”
The Chiefs have been driving for the three-peat all season long.
Do not be surprised to see them lifting the Lombardi in February.
