It has been a busy March in Tennessee.
The departure of Harold Landry III leaves just Jeffrey Simmons and Amani Hooker as the only two Titans remaining on roster since 2019.
I mean, fans have been saying scrap the whole team and start fresh, but perhaps doing it over six years was not quite what they had in mind.
New General Manager Mike Borgonzi has not wasted any time working with head coach Brian Callahan to refresh the team – starting with the surprise signing of left tackle Dan Moore Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Viewed as one of free agency’s riskiest moves, the four-year deal is costing the Tennessee Titans $82 million with $50 million guaranteed.
However, this addition should help to plug the hole at right tackle that last year we could never seem to fill.
With Moore at left tackle, we can flip JC Latham back to his more natural right tackle spot.
Combined with the addition of Kevin Zeitler at guard as well as wide receiver Van Jefferson, offensive lineman Blake Hance and linebackers Cody Barton and Otis Reese IV, the Titans are shoring up the O-line for what seems like a full on attacking presence next season.
While we may not have done as much on the defensive side, the biggest news for us on this side of the ball is the signing of safety Xavier Woods.
Last season Woods did not miss a defensive snap, and led the league in the category with 1,152 – according to TruMedia.
He also set a career best with 119 tackles and tied his career high with three interceptions. If he can perform at that level this season he would be a valuable addition to the defense.
All eyes on Green Bay
After the inevitable annual free agency frenzy, many analyst now believe that Tennessee will draft quarterback Cam Ward with the number one pick.
This does pose the question of what will happen with Will Levis. With the addition of quarterback Brandon Allen and the probability of drafting Ward, is there about to be an all-out dog fight in Tennessee for the coveted starting quarterback position?
Honestly I think Allen was bought in purely to help develop Levis’ mediocrity into something more than what it has been, going into what is going to be a make or break season for him.
If we do draft Ward and he shows coaches that he can be the franchise quarterback this team needs Levis will be leaving Tennessee, this is his last chance to be what this team needs.
Of course, another option is Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, a cornerback who also played wide receiver. However, with Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter on the board the Titans will have a difficult decision to make.
After acquiring a 2025 sixth round draft pick from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for Kenneth Murray and a 2025 seventh round draft pick, we head to Green Bay in April with eight picks in the upcoming draft.
