Is this Doug Pederson’s last chance saloon?

It is a season-defining week for the Jaguars.

The crushing loss to the Detroit Lions left me amazed that Doug Pederson was still head coach the morning after.

A week and a half later, I am perplexed that he remains at the helm.

Even one of the most embarrassing performances in recent memory was not enough to sway franchise leadership a major overhaul might be necessary.

The bye week would have been the perfect opportunity but that ship has sailed. I really hope they have made the right play call otherwise it could be a long end to the season.

Looking ahead to the next game against the Houston Texans, Pederson hesitated to share specific details in the pre-game press conference but reassured fans that he is implementing “internal changes”.

These unspecified tweaks really could be his last chance to turn the season around before the results seal his fate.

This week could be a major chance for the Jaguars to kickstart a comeback.

The Texans are looking a little shaky after losing three of their last five games. These opportunities do not come around too often.

It would be a rare opportunity for the Jags to exploit another team’s rough patch and pick up an energising win on the road.

However, the Texans will not go down without a fight. The Jags will have to be aware of all the threats that exist within the Texans’ line up.

One thing is for certain, the internal changes that Pederson alluded to have to make the difference. If these alterations inject life into a spluttering offence and produce a resilient defence, these could be career-saving.

On the flip side, if results continue in the same vein, then Pederson could be the next major change.

Even at this stage in the season, remarkably there still remains the hope that the Jaguars could make headway in their division, potentially winning it.

Couple this remote possibility with the potential return of Trevor Lawrence; this really could be a season-defining week.
