Jaguars mauled by Lions in franchise-record loss

Week 11 proved to be one to forget for Jags fans.

After the crushing 52-6 loss to the Detroit Lions, the bye week could not come soon enough for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With the Jags record now standing at a bleak 2-9, this is looking eerily familiar to the 2021 season under Urban Meyer.

The Jags have huge calls to make, both on and off the field.

With Trevor Lawrence ruled out, it fell to Mac Jones to try and cause a monumental upset. The offense –  in short – was woeful, resulting in only two field goals.

The offence’s inability to put together sustained drives left the defence to limit the damage on the scoreboard. Unsurprisingly, this left the defence with an impossible task against a methodical and dynamic Lions offence.

This was an opportunity for the Jags to, at the very least, not embarrass themselves. However, this blowout is a stark assessment of the current Jaguars.

A result to move on from – quickly

Heading into the bye week, the Jags have decisions to make. Yes, there have been mounting injuries, especially with Lawrence.

However, the focus moves from the players on the field to the staff on the sidelines.

Prior to the Lions defeat, I firmly wanted stability. Although, with six games – including four division games – remaining to round out the season, I am shifting towards a swift change in leadership.

Doug Pederson has been in the hot seat for weeks and the pressure will only continue to mount.

The London games, at least for the previous two seasons, have been a turning point in the Jaguars fortunes. Relying on this is not the way forward to become a winning football team.

Whatever happens over the next two weeks, the Jags will have to show the grit they have shown in recent seasons to reassure fans of their hunger to succeed.
