Jalen Carter has been a juggernaut for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive unit.
In just his second year in the National Football League, Carter has become a quarterback’s worst nightmare.
The 23-year-old recorded two sacks and a forced fumble in the victory over the LA Rams on Sunday night.
Despite the constant double teams from the opposing offensive line, the defensive tackle was relentless in his pursuit of the passer.
Nick Sirianni was quoted by ESPN after the victory saying: “Jalen Carter is a special player and he’s done so many of the right things to continue to make himself a special player.”
The Georgia graduate has demonstrated his merciless mentality that fans of Philadelphia yearn for.
Although Carter has only accumulated 4.5 sacks on the year, he has become a vital cog in the Vic Fangio war machine.
Big hit needed early
In the build up to the NFC Championship match-up between Philadelphia and the Washington Commanders, the media will emphasise the importance of the inevitable Saquon Barkley and record-breaking rookie Jayden Daniels – however, it could be Jalen Carter decides the direction of the game.
Daniels currently sits fifth in the standings for the quarterback sacked on the most occasions this year, as he has been taken to the ground 48 times.
If Philadelphia have any chance of stopping the rookie – as his dual-threat ability becomes more dangerous whilst his confidence surges – they have to inflict a big hit on him early.
Standing at 313 pounds – a sack from Carter will have Daniels wishing that he took another year to study at Louisiana State.
Joking aside, Jayden Daniels has grown in stature since the last time the two NFC East teams faced off – a game in which he threw five touchdowns.
Jalen Carter will relish the opportunity to extinguish the flame and demolish any ambitions that Washington fans have of taking a trip to New Orleans.
Bring on Sunday, Go Birds!
