Miami Dolphins fall at the final hurdle

Scoreboard watching was not for everyone yesterday.

The Miami Dolphins fell short in a crucial season-ending clash against the New York Jets, suffering a 32-20 loss at MetLife Stadium.

With playoff hopes on the line, the Dolphins could not capitalise, finishing the season at 8-9 and out of postseason contention.

The Jets, meanwhile, ended their tumultuous campaign on a high note, largely thanks to a vintage performance from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The veteran signal-caller turned back the clock, completing 23 of 36 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns.

Rodgers also achieved a career milestone, throwing his 500th career touchdown pass in the third quarter. If it is goodbye to the future Hall of Famer, it was a lasting memory of his greatness.

Miami’s offensive struggles were evident from the outset. Quarterback Tyler Huntley, again filling in for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, failed to find consistency, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble.

The Dolphins’ ground game, led by De’Von Achane with 121 yards, showed flashes of promise but their inability to finish drives proved costly.

The game was a microcosm of the season for the Dolphins, and leaves them with more questions than answers as we look ahead to next season.

Decisions, decisions

Owner Stephen Ross has moved quickly to say general manager Chris Grier will stay, as will head coach Mike McDaniel.

Time will tell if this proves to be a wise choice, with an offseason of decisions on big names like Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, Jalen Ramsey and maybe even Tua himself pending.

The Dolphins could also lose defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver to head coaching opportunities elsewhere.

There are building blocks on both sides of the ball in Miami, even if some ‘superstars’ leave.

A good draft and key free agent acquisitions can make them a contender, although a second placed schedule might be challenging.

One thing though is certain, another chaotic off season awaits in South Florida.
