Will Miami still be alive come kick-off time in Cleveland?
The Miami Dolphins (7-8) travel to Cleveland this Sunday to face the Browns (3-12) in a Week 17 match-up pivotal for Miami’s slim playoff aspirations.
Miami enters the game favoured by six points. The Dolphins must win their remaining games and rely on outcomes elsewhere in the league.
If the LA Chargers and Denver Broncos both win on Saturday, Miami’s postseason dreams will end.
The Dolphins’ offense is averaging 20.3 points per game and the return of the run game last week against San Francisco was a welcome addition.
The use of both De’von Achane and Jonnu Smith in the pass game will be critical to Miami moving the ball.
On the defensive side, Miami allows 21.9 points per game, ranking 11th in the league. Zach Sieler on the defensive line can perhaps lay claim to being a Pro Bowl level player. He continues to be dominant force, as the season progresses.
The Browns, eliminated from playoff contention, have faced a challenging season marred by injuries and inconsistent play.
Back-up quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson is expected to start despite a calf injury. Veteran Jameis Winston listed as questionable due to a right shoulder issue.
Cleveland’s offense will also be without key contributors, including tight end David Njoku (knee), wide receiver Cedric Tillman (concussion), and defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo (knee) – all ruled out for Sunday’s game.
The absence of these players further complicates the Browns’ efforts to generate offensive momentum.
Defensively, the Browns have been dealt a significant blow. Starting defensive tackle Shelby Harris has been placed on injured reserve due to an elbow injury.
Harris has been a pivotal presence on the defensive line. His absence may hinder Cleveland’s ability to pressure Tagovailoa effectively, with a lot of onus falling on Myles Garratt.
In another must win game, I can see the Dolphins prevailing 24-13.
