The back-up quarterback keeps 2024 season alive.

The Miami Dolphins kept their playoff aspirations alive with a decisive 20-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Back-up quarterback Tyler Huntley, stepping in for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, delivered an efficient performance.

Huntley completed 22 of 26 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a rushing score.

The Dolphins’ defense was instrumental in the win, stifling the Browns’ offense and limiting them to a single field goal. Cleveland’s quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, struggled against Miami’s relentless pressure, completing 24 of 47 passes for 170 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was a standout for Miami, recording nine receptions for 105 yards, providing Huntley with a reliable target throughout the game.

Despite the absence of fellow receiver Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins’ offense maintained its rhythm, thanks in part to Huntley’s poise under centre and his scrambling ability in key moments.

This victory elevates the Dolphins to an 8-8 record, positioning them on the cusp of playoff contention.

What they need?

To secure a postseason berth, Miami must win their final regular-season game against the New York Jets and rely on the Denver Broncos losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18.

The upcoming match-up against the Jets is critical. The Chiefs – having secured the AFC’s top seed – may choose to rest key starters, potentially influencing the game’s outcome and by extension, Miami’s playoff prospects.

The Dolphins’ defense, which has been a cornerstone of their recent success, will need to maintain its high level of play against a Jets team eager to disrupt Miami’s postseason plans.

Offensively, the potential return of Tagovailoa could provide a significant boost, though Huntley’s performance has as least calmed some fears, if Tua cannot go again on Sunday.
