The former Wales rugby star in back in the UK.
Louis Rees-Zammit is a name plenty of NFL fans in the US will not know of.
Things are different on this side of the pond, however. As many in the UK know – particular in Wales – Rees-Zammit is a former international rugby star.
The 23-year-old made the decision to leave rugby at the start of 2024, and initially found a home with the Chiefs.
There, Rees-Zammit played on special teams and at running back during preseason, however things did not work out.
After being cut, Rees-Zammit was signed to the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars as a wide receiver.
And the former Wales rugby star says he now realises he had been playing in the wrong position.
“Playing running back, we figured out that was not the best position for me,” Rees-Zammit told reporters ahead of Week 7.
“Coming here, the Jags have given me the opportunity to play wide receiver.
“I feel that position suits me a lot more, it allows me to use my speed more.
“I’m working hard every day to try and get an opportunity, whenever that comes I will try take it with both hands.”
‘Great to be back in the UK’
Rees-Zammit is currently back in the UK as the Jaguars prepare for their second NFL London game.
As part of the IPP, Rees-Zammit can be elevated to the active roster three times during the regular season.
Many expected the first of those games to be against the Chicago Bears in Week 6, but that was not the case.
Rees-Zammit has one more opportunity to make his NFL debut on UK soil, in Week 7 against the Patriots.
“It’s unbelievable to be back here,” said Rees-Zammit.
“It’s great to see all the Jags fans and how loyal they are, there are a lot of them in the UK.
“Us players love coming out here to play in front of them and see the support.”
