It has been a busy few days!
After the dramatic hiring of Liam Coen, the appointments for the Jacksonville Jaguars have been coming thick and fast.
With both offensive and defensive coordinators in place, there is a motivation to make the right hires for the team as quickly as possible.
With the arrivals of offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, we are seeing the Liam Coen project unfold.
These hires are considered to be the next generation of coaches within the NFL and are highly respected. Change is what the Jaguars have needed for a long while now and the desire to be a regular play-off contender seems to be back.
Aside from his awkward ‘Duuuval’ at his opening press conference, Coen pleased fans with his upfront honesty about the type of football that he wants to play. He talked plenty about complimentary football, players over plays and his acronym of ‘FAST’ football.
- Fundamentally sound
- Attacking
- Situational masters
- Tough
Cynical Jags fans could argue that this is just Coen playing his part and getting the media onside. Despite this concern, I think credit has to be given; these are stellar hires and he has built a young, ambitious team of coaches around him.
‘Work your tails off’
The hiring of these coordinators backs up the sentiment behind these words. Coen is instilling the ferocity back into the Jaguars offence. He is wanting to coach a team that plays football in the way that the fans want.
The other phrase that struck me was his ambition for the team ‘to work their tails off to bring championships to Jacksonville’.
Despite the rather subtle play on words, I believe he meant it.
I have heard many coaches say a phrase similar to this. Something when Coen said it was different and I hope for a bright future for him and Jacksonville.
