Bye Bye Bye.
As the song by NSYNC – which was made famous again by the recent Deadpool movie – goes, the Houston Texans say bye bye to the bye.
That said, it could not come quick enough for the boys from Kirby. With injuries mounting, sub-par line play and at times a toothless offense we limped our way to the late Week 14 bye.
In the weeks leading up to it, the Texans fell to the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans, while scraping by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In that time they lost star safety Jalen Pitre to a season-ending pectoral injury which is a massive blow if they are to make a run at the playoffs.
The team also lost in a more controversial manner defensive captain Azeez Al-Shaair to a three game suspension for what looked like a bang bang play on Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s play calling has also been at the centre of the Texans offensive woes. So could the bye have been an opportunity to refocus?
Stars returning
During their off week the Texans have been buoyed by the return of Kenyon Green.
Green was a solid starter last season but had not gotten off to the best start this year, with time off due to injury and reflection he adds depth and competition to the offensive line.
An even bigger plus is the return of linebacker Christian Harris. Harris has not been seen on the practice field all season with a calf injury so this is a huge boost for the very talented defensive player.
Harris was pivotal in the Texans win over the Cleveland Browns last season in the play offs so with his return so late on and with Azeez’s suspension what better time to have the influential player back.
So as Week 15 looms with the Miami Dolphins coming to town and the whole of Houston’s fanbase rabid for their teams return, what better way than with a statement win.
That win and an Indianapolis Colts loss will lock up a play off spot for the Texans.
It was nice knowing you bye week, but let us get back to some Houston Texans football!
