Giants facing dilemmas on trade deadline day

Joe Schoen will likely be busy today.

The New York Giants should not be buyers at today’s trade deadline, but the question is how much should they sell?

Jason Pinnock, Evan Neal, Jalin Hyatt, Devin Singletary may all generate trade calls.

However, two names likely to receive offers are impending free agents Darius Slayton and Azeez Ojulari.

Slayton has proved to be a solid WR2/3 option in the NFL and has led the Giants in receiving five out of his six seasons.

He is unlikely to fetch a big price, so Schoen has to consider whether having a 2025 fifth-round pick or a reliable receiver for what is needed for what is likely to be a new quarterback in 2025.

I would like to see Slayton re-signed. The wide receiver free agency this year looks deep, so his number will not be as high, likely a similar contract to what Darnell Mooney gained this offseason.

Ojulari will likely cost more to re-sign. His production – especially in Kayvon Thibodeaux’s absence – will likely result in him getting a half decent paycheck.

The question for the Giants is whether a day-three pick outweighs keeping him for the season and letting him walk once finished.

Last year the Giants earned some ‘culture wins’ down the stretch after the deadline, but this cost them a chance at one of the top three quarterbacks in the 2024 draft.

Are they willing to do the same this time around? Or is it time to open shop and focus on 2025 and beyond?
