Which Seahawks could be saying farewell this weekend?

The Seattle Seahawks close out their season against the LA Rams.

A rookie head coach has led the Seahawks to a winning campaign. However, many fans remain underwhelmed by the team’s performance.

Mike Macdonald and John Schneider face some important decisions this offseason, as they continue to shape their vision for the franchise.

With limited cap space and some overpaid veterans on the roster, some key Seattle contributors could make their final appearances this weekend.

Tyler Lockett

The wide receiver is second only to the great Steve Largent in career receptions, yards and touchdowns in Seahawks history.

His contribution as a kick returner, deep threat for Russell Wilson and chain-moving option for Geno Smith has been terrific.

Unfortunately, Lockett’s production has dipped substantially this season, while his cap hit will be over $30 million next year.

Cutting the franchise legend would save $17 million in 2025. A painful farewell is on the cards.

Jarran Reed

The veteran defensive lineman is set to become a free agent this offseason.

However, he is coming off a strong 2024 campaign. Pro Football Focus has Reed ranked 27th out of 218 interior defenders.

His leadership is also valued highly by Mike Macdonald. Hopefully Reed can be re-signed on a cheap deal.

Noah Fant

I must confess I was optimistic when Fant was included in the deal which sent Russell Wilson to the Broncos.

He showed some promise in Denver, but has failed to kick on during his time in Seattle.

Fant’s last touchdown came in 2022, while he has not surpassed 500 receiving yards in the last three seasons.

Releasing the tight end over the coming months would save around $9 million.

Dre’Mont Jones

The defensive lineman has eight and a half sacks in two seasons, since his arrival from Denver.

This production is not awful, but the contract which comes with it certainly is.

Seattle could save almost half of his $25 million cap hit next year by cutting him in the coming months.

Geno Smith

Whatever your opinion is on the Seattle quarterback, he is not the long-term solution at the position.

The Seahawks could look to free agency and trades as the 2025 draft class is light on top quality signal-callers.

Should Seattle move for J.J. McCarthy or Justin Fields, Smith would probably be released to save $25 million next season.
